Prabasi Bangasammelan 2026 is a three-day confluence at Arts Acre, Kolkata, where Bengalis from across the world come together to celebrate a shared heritage–and shape what comes next. Across five distinct pillars–Shabd, Laya, Sankalpa, Drishya and Rasna–literature, music, cinema, entrepreneurship, ideas and cuisine come together in one annual homecoming.
How This Vision Was Born (The Story Behind the Homecoming)
Every year, thousands of Bengalis leave home.
Some leave chasing education. Some for careers. Some for research, business or the promise of a different life. They carry little more than ambition, talent and a distinctly Bengali way of seeing the world. Over time, they become innovators, artists, entrepreneurs, academics, filmmakers, musicians, business leaders and changemakers–leaving their imprint on cities, industries and cultures across the globe.
But no matter how far life takes them, home has a remarkable way of travelling with them.
It lives in a language that never needs translating. In a Rabindrasangeet playing softly on a Sunday morning. In Durga Puja celebrated under foreign skies. In the smell of shorshe ilish, the comfort of mishti, the poetry quoted from memory, the inevitable debate over football or politics, and the instant familiarity of meeting another Bengali in a city thousands of kilometres away.
Because being Bengali is not just where you’re from.
It’s something you carry.
The founders of BCIBI and ACGAL have lived that journey themselves. They attended Prabasi Bengali gatherings across the world–each one filled with warmth, celebration and community. Yet one thought refused to leave them.
If home is what brings us together, why do we always meet so far from it?
That question became an idea.
And that idea became Prabasi Bangasammelan.
Instead of taking Bengal to the world, it brings the world back to Bengal.
Back to Kolkata–the city that has inspired generations of writers, artists, thinkers, entrepreneurs and dreamers. Back to conversations that happen best over endless cups of tea. Back to relationships that become collaborations. Back to a place where culture is not preserved behind glass, but lived, argued over, celebrated and carried forward.
This is not simply a reunion.
It is where the global Bengali community gathers to imagine its future together.
A place where stories are exchanged, ideas find collaborators, businesses find partners, artists find audiences, and generations reconnect–not just with where they come from, but with where they can go together.
Every December, Kolkata becomes the address of the global Bengali community.
